Question
i have a long haired female guinea pig and she may have bred with a short haired male guinea pig. I heard that if mixed with a different type of guinea pig there may be harm to the babies I don't think this is likely but want to make sure. Is this dangerous to the babies? Also when can the babies be held after they are born?

Answer
Hi Kaitlin

This is not a great area of expertise for me but I have never heard that it is a bad thing for different breeds of pig to mate with each other, I'm sure this happens all the time.

In terms of handling, I would leave the babies alone for 7-10 days although there is no danger of the mother rejecting the babies like with rabbits.
