pregnant piggy?

Question
Hi  We have what we were told to be 2 girl guinea pigs, they have been together now about 6 weeks with us, although I think they were housed together also before we got them. They are 6mths old.  I think one may be pregnant as they are both constantly hip swaying and purring, the one I suspect I have also observed at the water bottle far more than the other and she is slightly more rotund than the other also.  They are both eating well and happily squeak when food arrives and both still love cuddles.  Could it just be a case of 2 girls having a 'go' at one another and she is just a different shape to the other one?  I will take them to the vets later this week to get it all confirmed but would appreciate your thoughts?

Answer
Hi Rachael

You are correct. It could be that one pig is pregnant or it could be a case of one pig establishing dominance over the other.

From what you tell me, I would suggest the dominance issue is more likely. This should settle down quite quickly. Perhaps you should take a look at the link below where you can clarify that both pigs are indeed female.
