can a recently neutered male make a female guinea pig pregnant

Question
Eight months ago I bought 2 female guinea pigs and one turned out to be pregnant with 2 boys and 1 girl.  After waiting till they were 6 months old, I just had my two male guinea pigs neutered two weeks and one day ago.  They've both been living together since day one when they were born and they get along pretty well. I asked the Dr, was it possible for them to make my females pregnant anymore and she said absolutely not.  My piggies have had quite a time recovering from their surgery, especially Little Red, so I thought since today both males, who were acting so happy and wheeting at the females, that for about 15 minutes I would put Blondie and Little Red in with the unneutered females.  Well they both went wild, mounting all three of my females as well as one another, and I looked it up on the net and found out that this was normal, but it also said that neutered males can still inpregnate a female from about 3 to 4 weeks after surgery.  I called my dr and she said they had never heard about this and assured me again that my girl piggies would not get pregnant, but don't keep the males in with the females for two more weeks in order for them to heal properly.  Is it possible that I got one of my females pregnant.  I know that they are fertile for only about 14 hours every two weeks, and that the odds of 2 male guinea pigs impregnating a female who they are with only 15 minutes are quite low.  But, I'm still worried.  What do you think, and if it turns out that one of my females is pregnant should the avian and small animal clinic bear some of the cost of an abortion since they did assure me about three or four times that it was impossible for the males to impregnate the females?  Please tell me what you think.
Thanks,
Carol

Answer
Hi Carol

Yes this is unlikley and i have never heard of this happening before
Normally once a male has been desexed- Nuetered They cant get the female pregnant

I do no something that if she does become pregnant then i would take her to the clinic to get a abortion and make them pay for it
Because like you said they did tell you 3-4 times that she wouldnt

Just dont put them back with the female for another day or so
Until things settle down

I have read an article before claiming that a guinea pig became pregnant with 2 babies when she was put in with a male that had just been Nuetered this was about 14 hours after the surgery and people were amazed that this could happen it turned out that the vet didnt do a very good job at it and the vet clinic did actualy pay for it to be done again

Anyway I hope this has helped
All the best tell me the verdict of what happens
