Oops! Inbreeding?

Question
I have two guinea pigs that I adopted at a flea market. They seem to be from the same litter. We THOUGHT they were both males, but lately one of them seems to be getting rather large around the middle, and I am pretty positive that HE is pregnant. -lol- I am worried that there may be some health issues because of their being from the same litter, but I don't have access to an vet. What are some signs I should look for in case of a problem? Will the babies be okay?

Answer
Hi Samantha.  I don't profess to know a lot regarding breeding so i couldn't be 100% on target with this one, however i don't think you should worry too much just yet.  You are correct in that inbreeding isn't ideal, with reason for it.  Deformities, shortened life-span, extra limbs or digits, serious health conditions can all come out of a couple of inbreeds.  This is what the high risk is.  I think I'm right in saying that this couldn't apply all the time.  Lets hope your pigs come out of it okay.  If you meet any problems along the way it would be best if you could at least get hold of an animal expert in your area, if not a vet.

I hope this helps!
