Question
Ok I got my guinea pig on December 15. When I got her she looked normal to me but gradually she looked bigger on the bottom half of her body. Now if I feel her underside it feels as if directly in the middle its a tight muscle and hard and on each side of that it feels like a some what firm but still a little soft egg shaped pouches. She sometimes drinks alot of water and goes through a bottle in no more than 2 days but usually 1 to 1 and a half days. sometimes she seems to have alot of energy and runs circles around the cage other times she just lies there on her side. lately about 4 days ago I can swear Ifelt movement. The only problem is she was born October 2 and the breeder said that she sperated them at about 4-5 weeks which would mean if she got pregnant the day she seperated them she would be 76 days pregnant. but thats if she seperated them at exactly 5 weeks. Also her nipples when I got her seemed to be covered in fur now you can see them as soon as you pick her up becasue there is a bald ring around them.  Also her sister who was born in the same litter was pregnant as well but had her babies 2 weeks ago. I wish I could send Pictures or post them but there is no way to do it on here that I can see of.  Ok any help is greatly appriciated

Answer
If you would like to send the pics on my email it is aliskay2003@juno.com

It is very possible she is pregnant. babies can become sexually mature at 3 weeks, so maybe her sis got pregnant a 3 weeks, and she got pregnant a week later. There is no way to tell.
As far as telling if she is pregnant, other than inactivity and excessive water drinking, her belly will become obviously pregnant because it will be twice her size, and bouncing around with active babies by 60 days. The only indication of birth is around 70 days, 48hrs before she gives birth, her pelvis bone (between her legs) will spread to an obvious 1.5 inches. From that point on it is close to show time. She will give birth on her own, and involvement by you is a bad idea. The only time you should get involved is if she is screaming or pushing for over 10 minutes without the result of a baby. In these cases she should be rushed to a local vet. Cesarean sections are not healthy and very dangerous. The babies stay with mommy for 3 weeks.  At this time, mommy, baby girls, and baby boys should be separated from each other. The baby boys are sexually mature at age 3weeks, so they are able to get mommy or sissy pregnant, so separation is important. They should stay in your care for another 3-4 weeks before finding a home. Feel free to email me the pictures or ask me more questions, sounds like your gonna have babies! Good Luck!
