Biting

Question
Hi

my guinea pig (sparky) is about 9 weeks old i have had him for just over 3 weeks, he is on his own as was advised as long as i handle him at least once a day he wouldnt get too lonely.
For the first 2 weeks everything was fine i was able to get him out of his cage everyday and stroke him, he jumps which im told is a good sign and makes all the nice noises but the last 3 times i have got him out he keeps biting my neck and also shaking (like he has fluff on him) and laying on his side, i put him on my chest so he is held correctly and usually like to snuggle. When he is in his cage he is exactly the same and nothing has changed and im not able to hold him.
What should i do, does he do it because he dosnt want me to hold him or should i just leave him for a while.

Thank you

Answer
no persistence is the key, though with the shaking thing just check that he dos ot have mites or an infection in his ears. as for your bonding try massaging where his neck would be, rather like sratching beind a dogs ear but softer, or stroking under his chin guinea pigs seem to love that.

also as a side note most male guinea pigs can get long fine with another male guinea pig, so a cage-mate would be good for him, try a local rescue and explain that you'd like a trial run, if you decide to try this then by all means contact me again on bonding tips.
