Guinea has cloudy eye and head is slowly moving to right

Question
Hi my guinea coco has a cloudy right eye and when she stands still her head slowly moves to the right then she brings it back to centre again. Then it moves on it's own to the right again..
Do u know what this might be. She once had ear mites but was treated for that last year. She is eating well and seems ok. But these symptoms came on since yesterday. She us an indoor guinea and my other one seems fine.

Answer
I think there are probably two different things going on with Coco.  The cloudy eye could be the result of an eye injury. I don't think however that it has anything to do with the head tilt. If it were an inner ear infection I would expect to see her become off balance when she walks.

We sometimes see babies born with what is called torticollis also known as 'wry neck'.  It's a twisting of the neck caused by an injury during delivery. You don't say if she tilts when you pick her up.  Ear infections typically cause the pig to lose their balance because the inner ear has been affected and when picked up and held upright the tilt gets worse. If that's what she is doing she needs to see a vet to be sure that's what it is and give her treatment.

Since she has a history of ear mites it's entirely possible she has them again on the right side, since she keeps tilting that way.  The mites can interfere with her abilitiy to keep her balance.

I think the best course here is to see your vet and let them determine what is causing this. We can't assume mites are the cause. If it's an inner ear infection it needs treatment.
