Question
i have a long haired (i think rosette) guinea pig and a short haired one. i had the long haired one 1st for about a week, then got the short haired one, both female, both babies about 9 or 10 wks old. i have had them for about 5wks total and now the short hair is chewing everything including the long haired one's hair. now when you stroke the long haired one he shudders and 'rumbles' ive read that this is not a happy noise. is he being bullied and how do i make them friends or is this a lost cause and should i separate them? please help

Answer
Hi
the chewing of the hair is known as BARBERING and will not harm either piggy. The one doing the chewing should grow out of it.
You say that both are female yet then you say HE, so I am a little confused here.
If its a male thats doing the rumbling, it may well be that you are exciting him sexually and the rumble is his way of telling you how big and strong he is!
As for the bullying, they will learn to live peacefully side by side as long as its not 2 males.
They will find their own pecking order but if there is fighting with blood drawn you will need to house them seperately but allow a wire partition so they can still sniff and see each other.
Hope this helps xx
