breeding of guinea pigs

Question
I have recently gotten a guinea pig from a pet store and was told she was about 6-8 weeks old.  That was a month ago.  I just picked her up for the first time in about a week, usually my kids hold her, and I can feel two round protrusions from her sides about the size of eggs.  I am pretty sure that she is pregnant due to the fact that I felt them move.  Is there anything I need to watch for or special care I need to take during her pregnancy?  How long is a normal cavvy pregnancy?  This is the first time I have had a pregnant piggy!
Thanks,
Christi

Well, if your guinea pig really was only 6-8 weeks old, then you should take her to the vet and have her checked out.  A guinea pig that young is usually not able to successfully carry and deliver a full litter.  Either she or the pups or both will die in the birthing process.  I would consult a "pocket pets" vet about her actual age to verify whether or not she is too young.  Pet stores are notorious for not knowing anything, but saying a lot.  If the vet determines that she is able to successfully carry a litter, then you want to handle her as little as possible and make sure she gets plenty of vitamin c.  If not, I would follow the vet's advice about what to do next.

Hope this is helpful.  If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me.  Good luck!
