I think my guinea pig is pregnant

Question
I recently bought 2 female guinea pigs from Pets At Home. Unfortunately one passed away after 2 weeks so they replaced her, I've recently put them together and I've noticed that the new guinea pig has a much rounder and harder belly then the other girl. I've held them up next to eachother and there's a big difference. Could this mean she is pregnant and if so what do I do?

Answer
If it is that she is pregnant then firstly congradulations lol, but caring for her wont be too difficult at all.

avoid lifting her if you can, if and when you need to transport her try to shepherd her into a small box or something to lift her in. Her diet as well could do with being slightly richer than when she is not pregnant. if you give her an hour on her own in the cage with some alfalfa hay then that should be fine on top of fresh veg.
she will give birth between 60-70 days after conception, as you dont know when she got pregnant you cannot know what stage she is in, but if it helps most pigs in pet shops are about eight weeks old, they come into season at around four weeks and once every fifteen days after which would make her at the most around thirty days gone when you got her.

when she has the babies keep feeding her alfalfa hay and i'd also get a cuttle fishbone to soak in the water to up her calcium intake, other than that leave nature to it and begin looking to remove any male pups between three and five weeks of age (unless you want more babies)

best of luck
