Guinea Pig pregnacy

Question
QUESTION: My guinea pig suki is pregnant I think. She has been eating more food then she normally does and she has been pushing my other guinea pig which is a boy around and is running around a lot. Please help Joci.
ANSWER: Do you have a male and female together in the same cage? I would completely seperate them because keeping them together will certainly cause a pregnancy unless the male is neutered. A pregnancy on a guinea pig is tough and can be costly for your pocket and to the guinea pig. You could lose your guinea pig or the cavies. The best thing to do is to give her vitamins during the pregnancy as well as prepare for the birth. Guinea pigs ar pregnant for about two months and I would certainly find a small animal vet because the guinea pig could have complications during or after surgery. Here is a link on the pregnancy and birthing process.

QUESTION: I separated them and she is getting heaver and is eating my and drinking more. Is she pregnant for sure?

Answer
She is probably pregnant. Put some tissue in the cage so she can make a nest. Keep an eye on her. It's a good idea to add vitamin drops or pedialite to their water. You can add like 1/3 pedialite for extra nutrition but I think hamster vitamin drops are better.
