Picky guinea!

Question
Couple of questions. My young pig has a 24" cage, I think this is big enough, he deosn't seem cramped, and it is the starter cage that was sold to me when I purchased him, should I go bigger(he's average size)?
Also, I'm sure i should get a food dispenser because I have a small weighted bowl for him so he won't tip it over, Now he will sometimes urinate/deficate in his pellets and they are no longer fit to eat! I also don't know how long I should feed him the pellets I have for him, It's a large bag and I've had it for almost 2 months, How do I know its not any good any more? I did put it in the refrigerator after a few weeks though! Thanks in advance for your time!

Answer
Cindy,
For one pig, the MINIMUM cage requirements are 30" x 36". Read more about cage requirements and on how to build your own cage for less than the store bought cages at www.cavycages.com!

A small weighted bowl should do fine. Yes, some guinea pigs do tend to urinate/deficate in his pellets. But guinea pigs eat their own poo! Yes, it is gross but it is true. Guinea pigs sometimes don't digest all their food so the nutrients may be left in their poo. So they eat it again. There is nothing wrong with this. I guess you can get a food dispenser if you'd like...

I don't know about your bag of food...
