Why isnt my guniea pig letting me pick her up?

Question
I know that Guinea Pigs don't act as caring as dogs and cat do, but we got our Guniea Pig when she was about 6 weeks old. Now she's 10 weeks old, and she still doesn't let us pick her up whenever she's running around the floor. It's only me and my boyfriend in our apt, so we let her run around, and she has her litter box she does her business in "most" of the time. she spends most of her time under the couch, and she has her litter box, toys, water, food, etc there. She comes out from under the couch to explore, she does a lot of hopping around (which I hear is good) This is our first guniea pig so we still have questions how to care for her, but my main question is how to make her like us, I try to pick her up whenever she's on the floor, but she runs away, she wont even let me touch her. She eats food from our hand, but we have to trick her to get her. When I put her on my lap she always tries to leave, she purrs sometimes, but I just don't know what to do to let her know we are her friends. please help.
Thanks,
Jessica

Answer
Hi Jessica

My 3 pigs who I have had for years and all of whom are hand-trained dont let me pick them up when they are on the floor in an open space. This is part of a piggies prey instinct. This is perfectly normal.

You also need to realise that some pigs just dont like being handled. You should just keep holding her on your lap gently and she will learn to trust you. Its only been 4 weeks after all.
