First guinea pig

Question
Hi! my name's Ceci and I am about to get my very first guinea pig from a friend. I need to wait about a week to get her though, because now shes only a week old now and I have to get her when she's two. I'm REALLY freaking out, because I dont know if it needs to be on some special diet because it's a baby, or if it needs extra-special care. I know you need to feed grown piggies timothy hay, but I hear you need to feed babies alfalfa hay. Is there a special type of food that I should give it too? I already have a decent sized cage, and I am making a BIG cage/playpen on my floor for it to play in when I get home from school. should I give it extra attention? I DO have a week until I get it, I need to get more stuff for it to play with for the larger cage. Should I get it another pig to play with? I have a band that I play in twice a week (I have about 3 hours at home when i HAVE to de homework, so I might not be able to play with her). What should I do? I need some good tips.

Thanks!
Ceci

Answer
Hi Ceci

It does not need any special food but 2 weeks is a bit young to get a baby maybe 3-4 weeks is the best time
ok
Any hay should be fine
just feed it a variety of hay pellets and fresh fruit and vegetables
and make sure it has lots of water
just a handle and a little play each day should be good and will make it very happy
Yes it is your choice if you want another piggie 1 baby pig should be ok as long as you handle it lots and spend lots of time with it
but since you are a school student you have homework and you have band practice maybe another baby would be a good idea but make sure they are of the same sex
I hope this has helped
Good Luck Ceci
Hope things turn out good with your new Baby guinea pig
