Albino piggy

Question
Hey Andy!

I'm a proud new piggy owner! I've had her for 6 days now and she's a little character! I have a couple questions...

Which is better, timothy or alfalfa hay?

Are there any toys to get for her? She's a solo piggy who made buddies with one of my dogs (13y/o springer spaniel) and she gets TONS of attention from me. She has a log cabin house that she chews on, a couple of wooden sticks I got at the pet store, I was thinking of giving her a dried out corn on cob I saw at the pet store, would that be OK?

I was thinking of trying to litter box train her in her cage as she is pooping in her favorite spot to sleep. Any tips on how to achieve this?

As Pluto is completely white she gets dirty rather easily, how do I bathe her? Any particular shampoo or anything that should or should not be used? I heard chinchilla sand was also an option.

Also, she bit me today (out of fear of one of my dogs) and drew blood... anything I should be worried about?

Thanks in advance!

Bren

Answer
Hi Bren

I have an albino piggy also so I can relate to your point about her getting dirty! I just use anti-bacterial small animal shampoo that you get from the pet store, but make sure she is totally dry before taking her outside at all.

The dry corn on the cobs are loved by my piggies so I am sure yours will like it also. You sound like you have plenty of toys for your new friend already.

I would say you dont need to worry about pluto biting you providing you have had a tetanus injection fairly recently.

Good luck with the litter training, I have never managed to achieve this with any of my pigs. However, I would put some of the soiled bedding in the box to encourange pluto to use it.

Either type of hay is fine but most people prefer timothy hay when the pig becomes a little older.
