Question
hey,

my 3 year old guinea pig, spike, has had a lump on her stomach for most of her life... recently it has grown larger and smaller lumps have developed around the area.

she is healthy, eating, drinking, active, and seems to be herself

she lives by herself, gets lots of attention, and eats a diet of seeds, fresh food and hay.

Answer
Hello Megan,

I'm very sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I have been very ill the last few days. Again, I am terribly sorry for the delay. I would recommend a vet visit. Lumps can be anywhere from harmless cysts to deadly tumors. Many of which can be slow growing. It would be wise to have a vet take a look. Also, Guinea Pigs should not be given seeds. They aren't grain eaters like most rodents, they are grazers. Seeds can cause many health problems (obesity being the most common) and can actually be deadly (they often choke to death on them). Piggies should be on a diet of plain Guinea Pig pellets, hay, and various veggies. Pellets are often cheaper and are a much better food for piggies than seed mixes. Once again, I'm sorry for the delay in answering.
