Purchased a new guinea pig at the petshop

Question
Well its the second day of owning a different guinea pig and sorry for the confusion. Well when i put her into the cage she just froze and did not move and styaed that way for hours. She laid underneath a dripping bottle until i coersed her to move by touching her. And she has stayed in the hutch the whole time the only thing she has eaten was a carrot which i had placed inside of her hidey hole other than that she stayes inside in one spot and doesnt move at all. doesn't even more out of curiousity, i'm nervous because maybe she is feeling stressed about the whole ordeal and im worried about her recovery in this new environment since she is not eating hay and drinking water. I may wait until this evening and tomorrow and if there still isnt any movement or action i may return her to the petshop and exchange her.

Thanks for such a prompt response, just wanted to update you...well turns out she had a nervous system disease and so  they dont think they will be able to release her to live with any one. So i purchased another guinea pig (female) from a different petstore today at the store she looked healthy and make noise and liked to be held, and road fairly well on the way home, but after i put into the cage she just laid down and went to sleep. My first guinea pig sniffed the area first, is this normal for this new guinea pig to be this way?

-----Question-----
We recently on 12/22 i purchased a guinea pig from the petstore and she was fine, eating well and adjusting to her new environment. I picked her up once and she made a kind of whining sound, i started to see that she was shaking her head alot more often than usual and then on 12/27 she started to get off balance and was falling over the place and could not stand up without falling when attempting to eat and drink and her head and eyes were shifty as if she was dizzy. I took her back to the petstore immediately after looking online and making my own conclusion that it was an ear infection. The petstore gave me a refund and i requested that after she was treated that i contacted right away so that i can repurchase her. Was this a good idea and do you think that she will recover without difficulty. Sorry for the lengthy question, one more questions...my room is drafty because its winter and i have a space heater that i keep on when i get cold and turn off when i am too warm, is this ok for my guinea pig?

Hi kim

You certainly did do the right thing providing you are confident that the store will treat your piggy. I understand your desire to re-purchase her because after a few days you will have begun to develop a bond for your new pet.

It probably was an ear infection or something similar and if this is the case it should be quite easy to treat with the right anti-biotics.

In terms of the room, you probably need to house the pig as far away from the draft as possible. Unless the room is really hot or really cold the temperature should be fine as piggies are very ribust animals.

Please do not hesitate to come back to me if you need any further information.

Hi again

I'm sorry to hear what happened to your first pig.

I am a little confused when you say your first piggy sniffed the area. Do you mean the pig you took back to the pet store sniffed her hutch before going to sleep etc whre the replacement just settled down? If I have understood you correctly then there is no reason to believe not sniffing is a problem.

Going to sleep itself is perfectly understandable while your new pet gets used to her new hutch.

Well done for being so keen to give a good home to your pig and if I can ever help with anything please do not hesitate to contact me. If I misunderstood you please also write back. i am away for much of tommorrow but I check my questions most days.

Answer
Hi again

Your pig is really displaying the behaviour you would expect when she is in a new environment. I alsways find that handling as early as possible is good. Try spending extended periods of time with her just sat on your lap stroking her gently and in time she will settle down I am sure.
