Guinea Pig seating

Question
I'm watching my friends guinea pig and she's not eating much or drinking. I don't know if she's depressed or if shes just old, she's almost 4 years old, but her mate (I guess you could call him that) died about a month ago. I really, really don't want to give my friend a sick guinea pig.
Thank you for helping me.

Answer
Hello Sara!
Its great that you care for your friend and her piggy enough to do something about this.
I suggest taking an extra close eye on her. Taking her out of the cage, petting her to calm her down and trying to feed her a little snack. If she has difficulty eating or wont eat, dont jump to conclusions. Try again in a half hour and then again a half hour after that, if she still wont eat then gently open her mouth and check to see if her teeth are too long and curling. If she does have anorexia or elongated roots than she needs a vet, asap. I put a little recipe for a hand fed mixture on the bottom. You can get a syringe for free or little money at any vet. Make sure its for small animals (1ml - .5 ml)
PELLET MASH
Soak 5-7 pellets in a small dish of warm water for a half hour.
Replace warm water and microwave for 7 seconds. Or heat on low in saucepan for 1 minute.
Mash pellets until liquid, adding more water if necessary.
Put in syringe and gently and slowly release into guinea pigs mouth, .1 at a time.
Do not force the guinea pig to accept it.
