Question -
We have two pigs... both were supposed to be males... so in our ignorance we just thought Junior was getting fat... til that widening load started moving on its own! :)
We have been reading up on pregnancy and birth and given how quickly Junior can reconceive have decided to get one of them fixed...
My question is easier to get the male or the female fixed? (Easier in both safety for the animal and cost)
Thanks...

Hi Christine

It is both cheaper and an easier procedure to get the male neutered, but you do have a third option. You could separate the two pigs although I would understand if you didnt want to do this.

On another point, please let me know if junior is more than 9 months old, many thanks.

Answer
Hi again

The reason I asked you to tell me that was that if a female has her first babies after the age of 9-10 months it may well be that her pelvic bones have fused together making it impossible to deliver the babies and causing death to mother and babies.

Further to my previous comments, you do need to think long and hard before putting your pig in for surgery as piggies are small animals so all procedures where anaesthetic is used is risky.
