Pregnant or not?

Question
I was wondering what signs/symptoms to look for if you suspect that your guinea pig might be pregnant.

Answer
Usually a pregnant guinea pig will eat drink and sit around more when they are pregnant, but these are not very acurate ways of telling. The best way to tell is when the sow starts to get bigger around the belly area, typically females will start to show that they are pregnant around 2 weeks after they have sucessfully mated, you should notice her belly getting rounder and more solid. Also the babies start moving 4 weeks before they are due so you can watch out for that. The gestation period for sows is 68 days, this is when all of my females deliver, occassionally there might be a sow that delivers on the 69th. There is no pregnancy test or anything to determine if females are pregnant unfortunatly, also a female might get pregnant then absorb her litter, so she might look pregnant one day and not the next. Just keep feeling her belly and look for any signs of it changing shape or hardness, baby guinea pig grow very quick so the belly in sows starts to change almost immediatly. Female guinea pigs also go into heat every 15-17 days so if she was only in with a male for a little while she does have a chance of not being pregnant because she wasn't in heat when they mated. It is really hard to tell unless you saw the pigs mate then you might as well guess that she is pregnant, also you can tell when the belly starts to change. Let me know if you have any more questions.
