Will a male & female definetly mate?

21 14:06:30

Question
I "thought" I had 2 female guinea pigs. We bought one female then decided she needed a buddy. I even had to make several trips to the pet store to secure another female. It's now 5 weeks later and I just discovered that Snowball is certainly a male and not a female after all. I hadn't looked at his "parts' since the first few days home from the pet store where they assured me Snowball was a girl. Fluffy, my other pig, is definetly a girl. So my question is.... they have been together for 5 weeks, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they haven't mated but what is the probability? And is it most likely that they did in the first few weeks and I should start watching for signs of pregnancy? Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
Hi Tori

I'm sorry for the wait
This can happen alot at pet shops when they do not no what they are doing
the chances of mating is high and she is most likely pregnant but remember there always is that chance that she is not so you can only hope

It is most likely that the did mate in the first few weeks did you hear the guinea pig make purring kind of sounds around the female or even trying to mount her?
And what is there age?

The first signs to watch for is the bump
and the appetite change
And if those signs to show make sure you feed her lots of fresh vegetables and fruits

Good Luck
