Male Guniea Pigs

Question
My sister and I each bought a guniea pig. They are both males. The pet shop told us that they should get along since one in under a year old and the other is a year old. But the thing is the older guniea likes to chase, bite, jump on, and what looks like trying to do something with the younger guniea pig. Should we seperate them or not? I have read about them and had guniea pigs in the past but they have all gotten along. Please help me.. Thanks..

Answer
Hello Brandy and thanks for the question,

What the males are doing is establishing their "pecking" order. Whenever you have two or more GPs in an area, they will nip and chase and peck to show "who's boss". This is fine and will stop after some time. Don;t feel bad for the submissive GP. It is the natural order and the lesser GP will be happy as well.

If the boss GP is HURTING or OVERLY annoying the submissive GP. Seperate them with a cage wall. They can be companions without fear of each other. PS: Make sure to wear GLOVES (GPs can get mean when fighting).

Thanks and good luck,
Ryan
