Question
in oct. we bought baby pig on jan. 2 we came home to 1 baby how old before they have babies this one was young when we bought it does baby nurse or eat some kind of food. how long do they carry baby

Answer
Hi Emily,

Guinea pigs can safely deliver their first litters between five and eight months.  After then, their pelvic bones will fuse together and a first delivery will be very difficult, possibly resulting in the death of the mother and/or the litter.  The baby will nurse for about four weeks.  The gestation period for guinea pigs, or the length of time for which they carry their young, is approximately 64-72 days, depending on the size of the litter.  The smaller the litter is, the larger the babies will be and the longer the gestation period will carry on.

Thank you for your question, I hope I have been of some help to you.  If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.  Good luck with your guinea pigs (=
