mute cavy?

Question
I've been wanting a guinea pig for some time and i just got one! I've had him about 2 weeks and by now I thought he'd be settling in and making some noise. I confess to not knowing much about guinea pigs but I'm trying to learn. I want him to be happy but he never makes any noise. No sqeaks, wheeks, whistles or anything except for the occasional low purr. His name is Mordecai, about 6 months old and he does not have a cagemate. Just would like to now if I've done something wrong or if this is normal for a new piggie! Thanks!

Answer
Hello Nikki,

It's normal for a new piggy. Also some piggies just aren't as vocal as others. As he gets more and more familiar with his new home, he may begin to talk more or he may just stay a bit on the quiet side. Just like people, some piggies take longer to adjust to new things and some are just quiet by nature.

On a personal note, I love his name. I lost a beautiful little boar named Mordecai last year and never dreamed I'd hear the name again. He was a bit quiet too.
