Question
one of my gps likes to eat gum and chocolate. my little brothers like to feed her gum an chocolate all the time. I tell them not to and yell at them but they keep doing it. anyways i just want to know what can happen to her.  she always has veggies and dry food.

Answer
Julia,

I got a laugh out of your question. I just imagined a GP chewing on gum and it cracked me up! Thanks.

Seriously, no gum. Gum should not be EATEN by anything. Your GP is looking at gastrointestinal problems in the future. In fact, if the animal gets stomach issues such as diahrrea or constipation, see your vet and tell them about the gum.

Now chocolate on the other hand is "probably" ok (in the fact that it won't KILL the GP). GPs are part of the rodent family and rodents love sweets in the wild. A common problem with GP is being overweight though. If your GP loves chocolate, a small piece once a month or so is the max I would go.

Note: GPs love Jello! You can get sugar free Jello and give it to your pet once in awhile also.

I hope this helped and good luck,
Ryan

PSS: When in doubt, see your vet.
