Question
my guinea pig is nearly 7 - male - he has suddenly lost the use of his back legs, I dont think it's vitiam C deffieciency as I think his diet is ok, he is still eating well, it's been sugested that it could be kidney failure, what do you think? do you think there's anything I can do. He is bright and not in pain.  I dont want to take him to vet as I'm frightened they will want to put him to sleep or keep him there and he is so frightened of the vets

Answer
Hello Chris,
wow Otis is very old. He could have had a stroke and that could be why he lost feeling in his legs. I think it's up to you to decide what you truly want to do. If you feel that he is still capable of being able to live a happy life than I wouldn't put him to sleep but I would take him to the vet just to make sure there is something more you can do. As long Otis is not in pain and he's eating and drinking I would still allow him to live. Only if he was failing in health then I would consider putting him to sleep.
