Pig-pig not eating

Question
We recently adopted a pig, and have had him for about 2 months.  Up until yesterday, everything was fine as in, he loves his snacks.  He doesn't want (or can't) eat his carrot or apple slice.  He acts like he wants too, but can't.  It's like his front teeth?? are bothering him.  I gave him chew sticks from the pet store to gnaw on. Could that be the problem?? Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Hello Julia,

I would take him to the vet for a dental exam. Sometimes a piggy's teeth don't line up properly. Since piggy teeth grow their whole lives, it's important they be lined up properly so the wearing down of them is even. Otherwise, as the teeth grow, they grow into their cheeks and tongues and make eating impossible and your piggy very ill. If left untreated, overgrown teeth will kill him. Sometimes if you look at their front teeth, they will be crooked but it can also just be the molars and he'll need a vet to properly examine them. The treatment is usually a regular filing of his teeth. Good luck.
