Question
-------------------------She only had two litters andthat is it for her total. All the pigs are in the same cage but a divider is in.  They do not bite to fight they only chase now, can i stop this?  the cage is custom made top and lower levels.  It is very big.  They all have running space.  I would say it is 4foot by 8 foot.  I take very good care of my babies.  The person I had given two of the gp's to brought them back b/c they admitted they couldn't take care of them which shocked me.  I gladly took them back that is how i now have 6 and made the cage bigger. Thank you for your response.  Heather

Okay...Here is the prob.  I have a a female my very 1st gp.  She had a litter of  pups we gave all away except one, Brownie.  She then later on had a second litter with the same male we gave all away except one again.  Brownie, the mom(Daisy), dad(duke, which has passed due to brownie killing him.), and the pup we kept from that litter Duke Baby. That gave us 4.  Now Brownie got aggressive and started to hump Duke, the dad, and he died.  Now Brownie is doing this to Duke Baby, so we took Brownie to the vet to be Nuetered.  Which was done, but he is still chasing everyone, but not as bad.  Now the person who took one baby from the 1st litter and 1 from the 2nd litter brought them back and since I have bought a new baby and now I have 6 and Brownie I guess is still in pain from surgery b/c it was only friday.  And he is chasing almost everyone and doing that dominice purr to everyone except Daisy(mom).  Why does he still do this? is my question,  but is not on there backs(humping them)?  Thank you and sorry to bother you with my complicated problems. I love all my piggies....Weeeeep Weeeeep...Love, Daisy(mom), Brownie, Rodney, Lily, Sunflower, And Duke Baby  oooh and me Heather

Hello

This sounds like a bit of a pickle. Do you have all of your guinea-pigs in the same cage? If you do take all the males out and put them in there own cages (yes there own cages) the females can live together if they don't fight. Neutering a guinea-pig doesn't stop him from chasing the males/females it just makes him infertile. If the surgery was done on friday I would have him in his own cage for at lest two weeks too heal properly without being steped on or bothered by any of the other guinea-pigs. How many times have you bred your female this past year? guinea-pigs are only to be bred two times a year if they are to remain healthy and live a noraml life span. Males can live happily together if and only if they are kept away from females other wise they will begin to fight. According to the way you've put it you have all of your guinea-pigs together including the males, the males in the pen will bite at each other and fight all the time and if they are not all in there own cages soon they will eventualy kill each other because they each want all of the females for them self. How big of a cage are you keeping six in? first of all dont forget to move each male to his own cage, but if the cage is too small all of the females will start to fight and they will kill each other. Also if more then one of your guinea-pigs is going to have babys be sure to give them each a diferent cage because if you gives birth It may cause the other pregnant female(s) to give birth prematurely then not only would the babys die but the mother has a better chance of dieing also. So far you've had two litters this is more then enough to add to the over population problem there are so many unwanted animals inculding guinea-pigs in the world, many of them get put to sleep each day because nobody wants them, when you sell your babys do you know for sure that they are not going to be in a rescue next month or in a snakes stomick? ARe you sure that the babys wont be "set free" when the owner doesn't want them any more? Can you be positive that your babys wont be  left outside on a too hot or too cold day and die? How do you know that these people aren't going to give it to there child and next week just leave it somwhere? So before you breed any more take a look at all of the homeless animals in shelters and rescues today. But after all of that you still want to breed do everyone a favor and breed responsively and don't let your sow have more then two litters a year, also if you are still going to breed be sure to keep as many babys as you can because you never know where they might end up.

Hello again and your welcome for the reply

Just wondering how do they chase each other if they are in different cages? Do they males in chase the males or do the females chase the females? If the females chase each other and they are pregnant its because they are cranky because of the prenancy. If the males chase each other its because they can smell the females and arechasing each other to fight. Sometimes when they chase each other (males or females) is because they may still be trying to show each other who is the boss unfortenitly this can lead to death.
