Question
How long is the gestation? What are the babies called? How long is a typical pregnancy? How do I know when the time is right? How many is the average number of babies born? What do I do when the mum goes into labour? Is it like with dogs and I have to break the sack? Does she eat the placenta? I have no idea!!!!!

Answer
Hi Barb

The Gestation of a pregnant guinea pig is 9 to 10 weeks the baby guinea pigs are called Piglets you wont no when the guinea pig is about to give birth Apart from the vagina will widen a few hours before the birth otherwise you wont no.
The average number of babies born is 3 to 4 but mine have had 1 and mine have had 6 so it depends on the mother.
You do not have to do anything during labour leave the mother alone and she should be fine on her own you dont have to break the sack the mother will lick her babies clean and she will eat the placenta
remember do not do anything during the birth unless a baby is stuck and the only way that can happen is if the mother is to young if she is she could die and so could the babies.

You will be surprised one day when you find little babies running around just like miniture parents they are really cute

Good luck with the babies would love to hear abou the babies when they are born

Hope this is helpful
