Question
I got my new female guinea pig "Bunny" about 3 weeks ago. She was about 4 months old and had one cagemate(also female). She was living on pine wood shavings(commercially bought). This morning i woke up and she Bunny was dead :( There were no bite marks and no indication of a fight. Nothing looked wrong with her she was not acting strange prior to her death. What happended to her?

Answer
Hello Alexandra,

I'm so sorry about Bunny. Unfortunantly, with no symptoms, there really isn't alot I can tell you. Piggies can have strokes or heartattacks but she was really quite young for either of those to be likely. You didn't mention what she was eating, but if there were seeds in her food, she may have choked. To be honest, I could sit here all day listing things it may have been but the only way you will know is if you have a necropsy done. Those are typically very expensive, but if you can afford it, it may help to ease your mind. If you had noticed anything off before she died, I may have been able to help more. Since you aren't sure why she died, clean out the cage thoroughly and keep a close eye on her cagemate. If you think of anything at all that you might have noticed but maybe forgot about concerning Bunny's behavior before her passing, let me know and I'll be happy to try again. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help and I'm terribly sorry you lost your beloved pet. I'm going to include a link to a site you can go to to make a memorial for Bunny if you like. It may help you deal with her passing.
