Housing a Guinea Pig

Question
My boyfriend and I just bought a male baby guinea pig last sunday (2/1/04)  We are having so much fun with it that now we want to buy another one.  We went out to some pets stores to look for one.  We were told by the place that we bought our gp from that they should not house 2 male's together.  I found this weird because when we bought the one we have, he was housed with another male and that's the one we were going to get the second time. Basically, my question is this....
1.  can you house 2 males together?

Also, is romaine lettuce ok for a pig to eat?

Yes, you can house two males in the same cage.  However, you should introduce them both at the same time into a very clean cage (no scent), and don't expect them to get along right away.  For the first 24 hours or so they will probably fight a bit, but it will improve with time.

And yes, romain lettuce is okay, but not really nutritionally helpful (although they do love to eat it!)

Hope this information is helpful.  If you have any more questions, or need clarification for any reason, please feel free to write.  Good luck with your new pet.
