Question
yesterday i had to have one of my 14 week old male pigs put to
sleep, should i get another male so his brother has another
companion or will he be ok living on his own

Answer
Because he is a mature boar it might me difficult bonding a strange boar with him. The instinct of fighting is a natural thing which is present in wild GP boars too.

If you decide to try this technique the boar will have to be of the same age to be able to stand up to any bullying. Some times there is just mounting and chattering and then things settle but there are many incidents where the territorial bickering turns into a full blown fight.

You can try putting Vicks vaporub on the rump and noses of the boars to deter the fighting while bonding and provide  vegetable to take their mind off aggression.
Any bonding should be done slowly in a divided run neutral run to start with just so their noses touch then remove the divider after a month. If they donot get on you can always get a bigger hutch and replace the divider so their is company even if they don't like to be totally near each other.

The other option is to find a vet that will castrate your present boar and introduce a 14 week old female. Male-female bonding does work a lot better
