wanting to eat but cannot

Question
This weekend our GP seemed to stop eating.   Took him to the vet Mon., rinsed his mouth and trimmed teeth.  When we got him home it seemed like he wanted to eat (seems interested in food) but he cannot.  It is like he is gumming his food and not really chewing and biting off chunks.  I gave him kiwi and spinach leaves and he cannot seem to chew them.  He is 5 1/2 yo and has lost 8 oz of body weight.  The vet has no other ideas.  What else can I feed him that could be soft food or is there a way to 'force feed' him.  Could this be the end b/c of his age?  I am so worried...we love him so much, please help

Answer
Hello,
I would advise you to take him to the vet again, but maybe a different one that specializes in guinea pigs. You could try feeding him soft foods or tempt him with his favourite veggies/fruit. You could also syringe feed him water and a food mix but be careful to make sure he doesn't choke.
Please let me know how he gets on and I hope I helped
