Bathing guinea pigs

Question
My daughter has a very hairy guinea pig.  We clean the cage weekly, but the pig needs a good cleaning.  Can I give it a bath?  And if so what should I use for shampoo and then for grooming after?

Answer
Hi Kerry,
Yes, You can give your guinea-pig a bath.
You can give it a bath in the bathroom sink or in a small tub, make sure the water isn't too deep or too hot.
Keep it slightly warm.
You can buy small animal shampoo from your nearest petstore and afterwards you can blow dry the guinea-pig if it is cold weather or just let it out in the sun if it is warm weather.
You can buy a pet comb from the petsrtoe and ask for assistance if you can't find small ones for rodents.( dog ones may be a bit harsh).
If you can't find a pet comb, use an ordinary human comb, but don't be rough, keep it to gentle strokes through it's fur.
I hope this helps.
If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
