Pest Control Spraying

Question
My apartment is having its interior pest control done this week, and I'm not sure what to do with my guinea pigs. Do they need to be out of the house for a certain amount of time, or would it be safe to just put them in a bathroom and tell them not to spray there?  Thank you!!!!!

Answer
Check with the company that's doing the spraying to find out what kind of chemical they're using. Most of them use products that are safe for humans but they still recommend keeping   small animals away for awhile.

You should remove them from the apartment for at least 24 hours after they've sprayed. The residual chemical is still present even if you don't smell it, but guinea pigs are much more susceptible to that kind of thing than humans are.  I would take them out of the house where they will be safe. If you can find someone who might keep them for a couple of days that would be even better.

Most vet offices offer boarding, and for small animals like guinea pigs it shouldn't cost much at all. To board a dog is about $10 per night here in Calif. in a good facility, so the vet shouldn't be anymore than that. You can even bring your own cage, food etc.  Another option is to ask your animal shelter if they will board them overnight. Many shelters offer that service as well. There is probably a fee but I doubt it is much. That way you know they're safe.
