My baby guinea pig.

Question
Hi Andy: I hope you are doing well and it seems like you know quite a lot about guinea
pigs. On February 13, my guinea pig had three babies but died shortly after giving birth.
The babies had no mother to nurse on so the vet told me to bye Kitten Milk Replacement
and give that to the babies as a substitute. However, they were drinking the milk as well
as water and eating pellets, parsley, and timothy hay. After nine days, one got diarrhea
and passed away the next day. That very same day after we removed the hay and
parsley from their cage, one of the other babies passed on from the same reason the
other baby did. I now have one baby who is about to turn two weeks old and he is very
weak and stopped drinking the Kitten Milk Replacement as well as the pellets and water.
He is cold without his brother, sister, and mother. What should I do? His daddy is in the
cage next to him but he is too tiny to put in the cage with the father. I am really scared
that my last baby will meet his mother, brother, and sister before he lives a whole life.
Thank you,
Amanda

Answer
Hi Amanda

I am afraid that the problems might have been made worse by the advice given to you to feed kitten milk. Milk products is not appropriate for guinea pigs.

If the remaining baby is still alive, you would be much better served feeding mashed pellets or just letting him eat a regular diet if he will do so.
