Question
I use aspen shavings. I have been using them for the last year and a half or so. I use to use carefresh, then a carefresh aspen mix. Now just aspen.

I have 2 male piggies that about just over 2 years old. Quentin has always sneezed from the day I brought him home, but recently he began sneezing more often and began having a runny nose. This is when we took a trip to the vets The vet gave me Trimethoprim-sulfa the first time around. He took this for 3 weeks. He still had discharge, but his sneezing had dramatically dropped to only a few times a day. Because he still had discharge she gave us Baytril this time. I am just starting the 4th and final week and he still has a runny nose. It is a lot less runny when we first went to the vets. Could he possibly have allergies? The vet was amazed at how good his lungs sounded even the first time we went to the vets. She thought he would be much worse off with the discharge from his nose. His lungs still sound good and he hasn't lost any weight and still loves food just as much as ever and has always continued to act normally. Any thoughts?

Hi shauna

Can you tell me what you use as bedding?

Thanks

Andy

Answer
Hi

I would try two things. Firstly, it is perfectly safe to dab a very small amount of vicks vapour rub on pig's nose to deal with the runny nose.

Secondly, try changing the bedding again. I recommend a combination of hay and shredded paper.
