swollen teat

I have a male that is 4 years old.  Noticed today while cleaning the cage he has a swollen teat/nipple?.    It started bleeding with little pressure.  It is about 1/4" wide and 1/2" long.  Thanks

Is he in a cage by himself or is it possible he somehow got bitten? If he's alone I would worry about some kind of mastitis and that can be serious. You might watch him for a couple of days to see if it's resolving itself. If it's showing any sign of worsening I would take him to the vet.

We always assume that only females can have breast tissue injuries or even cancer. Not so. Although the male breast doesn't produce milk it's still a breast and is susceptible to infection or injury and yes, even cancer.

I'm not suggesting this is a malignancy. But blood from the teat is a bad sign and needs attention.
