Question
Hello Mary,
My 4 year old guinea pig Sweet pea started scratching her back badly about 2 years ago. She gets these bad sores on her back in the places where she scratches. In addition to that, she has bad dandruff. What happens is she starts biting her back very hard until she loses balance and falls over, then she will do it again and again. When we try to pet her back she always bites at us or herself, as if she's in pain. Recently she sort of rolled over on her back and started rolling around. Then she twitched madly and tried to roll back over. We tried to help her back up but she just bit us. When she got back up she sat in the corner and wouldn't eat for a little while. My mom doesn't want to take her to the vet because its so expensive. What's wrong with my pore piggy and how can I treat her without going to the vet?

Answer
Dear Carrie

Try to get ome SUDOCREM from the pharmacy, and some PRIODERM or SELSUN shampoo.
Bath your piggy in wither of the shampoos and leave the lather on for about 5 minutes.Rinse THOROUGHLY and DRY HER before putting her back into the hutch.
Bathe her twice a week for 2 weeks and after each time when she is dry put some cream on her itchy bits.
The shampoos and the cream are perfectly safe for piggies.
If there is no improvement after the first 2 shampoos,do it for another 2 weeks but ach time make sure she is totaslly dry,and dont forget the cream
