balding guinea pig

hi my name is Chelsea and i have had my guinea pig Louie for about a week and a day, i got him from the pet store and he seems to have a bald spot on the top of his head, and a bald spot by his ear.

Hi Chelsea,

    Normally when dealing with bald spots, I suggest consulting a veterinarian to check for fungus, gently applying Vaseline to prevent dry skin, or increasing vitamin intake by giving daily vegetables and putting vitamin C supplemental droplets in the food and water.  If you suspect any of these things, send a follow-up question and I will go further into detail.

    However, it sounds to me like you are noticing the normal fur patterns of a crested guinea pig.  Guinea pigs normally have little patches behind their ears where there is no fur.  Here is a site that will give you more information if you scroll down a little to the picture:

    Also, Crested guinea pigs have a little rosette in the middle of their foreheads that usually sport a tiny bald spot in the middle.  I assure you, you have nothing to worry about.
