-----Question-----
i recently (a month ago) got a 3 1/2 year old guinea pig from someone.  i'm  a first time guinea pig owner but i had a hampster that lived three years.  so here's the situation... my girl 'pig' is in a 12"x24" enclosure - her house (a plastic igloo) takes up half of the cage and she has a water bottle and a food bowl.  when i first got her i noticed she would poke her head out of the house then go back in, come out alittle more and then back in, repeating this behavior a few times till she was out.  then she would spook, and scurry back into her home.  i figured the move might have scared her or something, so i didn't think much of it.  i started off my interaction with her small, just feeding her carrots and lettus and green bell peppers(are they ok?) by hand in her cage.  we've grown together and she now squeels like no tomorrow when i come in the room.  i also started taking her out and putting her in a larger enclosure, or sitting with her on my bed where i give her a bunch of toys to play with and run around.  she's pretty receptive to this, but still spooks very very easily.  (sorry for the long intro, but here's my question(s))  after a month, should she be over the spook thing?  is there something i'm doing wrong or maybe it has to do with the previous owner?  also, is that 12x24 cage too small for 1 full size guinea pig?  and lastly, i feed her regular dry food pelets - 22g protein/3g fat/15g fiber and usually a whole carrot and some hay, or pieces of lettus and some hay...  she always gobbles up the carrot or hay but doesn't consistantly eat her dry food.  should i feed her less carrots and lettus so she has to eat her dry food?  is it okay that she's not eating her dry food?  should that be her main food and the other veggies suppliment her diet or could she live on varying veggies alone?

thank you so so much for reading through this and if theres any more info you need to asses pig and her living conditions give me a shout!  thanks!!!

-----Answer-----
I have a lot of information on my website about cage sizes and food, as well as pictures of both. My website is http://woopets.bravehost.com  . It is normal for guinea pigs to get spooked, they are used to being prey animals, so any sudden movements can scare them, especially if they were under socialized at a young age. All of the foods mentioned are fine, although make sure you feed her leaf or romaine lettuce, not iceberg. If you have any more questions about anything on my website or need to know more just email me.

Answer
It would be a good idea to only give her a single serving of lettuce, carrot, or other produce only twice a day, one piece in the morning and one at night. Also make sure you are using a pellet labeled for guinea pigs, many other pellets do not contain vitamin C, which guinea pigs must have or they can get sick with scurvy. Adding a mix to the guinea pig pellets often helps also, just mix in some rabbit or guinea pig mix with some seed and other morsels in it, for about 2/3 pellets 1/3 mix.
