teeth chattering

Question
hi -
I've had two male guinea pigs for about four months. They were getting along
fantastically until yesterday. While in the cage they are perfectly fine. When
we let them out to run around, though, they've started having "face-off's."
Both will start chattering their teeth and after two or three minutes will try to
attack each other. I separated them and then put them back in their cage and
watched them. Again they were perfectly fine until I let them back out.
Is there anything I can do to stop it so they can get back to their usual playing
habits?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Jessica
this is about the time when both boys are trying to show dominance over each other.
They might even fight so badly that both get seriously injured.
You could try having them both snipped but its going to cost and theres no guarantee it will calm this behaviour.
It could be just when they are having run out time that the aggression comes out,so try to seperate their play area with some wire fencing - I use an old multi-way fireguard for this.
If they are ok living together then keep them that way and just seperate when its playout time.
Please get back in touch if you need to
