Question
my guineapig has just gave birth this morning can i hold the babys straight away or wait a while? she had 2 small ones

Answer
Amy -

Although it's okay to hold the pups right away, I would probably wait until evening, just to give the mother and pups time to bond and be on their own.  One thing you do want to do, though, is check them all (mother and pups) and make sure that everything went okay with the birth.  Make sure the pups have all their toes, etc, and make sure the mother is going to fully recover (you want to check and make sure the uterus hasn't prolapsed, etc.).  Just be careful when you handle a new sow, she will be sore and therefore a little testy.

Hope this is helpful.  If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me again.  Good luck with your new litter.
