Growth of bald spots behind the ears

Question
We have just noticed that the bald patch behind the ears on one of our cavies has increased considerably. The skin seems to almost be stretching out but apart from that there is no redness, flaking or itchiness. We are unable to tell if the bald spots on our other pig have increased but if they have then it is not by much. Any advice would be much appreciated as our pig seems fine and happy apart from the balding.

Many Thanks
Emma

Answer
Hi Emma,

I'm terribly sorry for the delay with this response.

If your guinea pig is acting happy and healthy, then the chances are that they are normal bald spots behind the ears.  Every guinea pig exhibits these specifically located patches without fur behind the ears, but the size depends on the individual.

If you suspect dry skin as the problem, try gently applying some Vaseline to the area and see if that helps.  Also, baldness is caused by vitamin deficiency so try increasing his daily intake of vegetables and then put vitamin supplemental droplets (found at a local pet store)in his food and water.

Thank you for your question, I hope I have been of some help to you.  If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.  Good luck with your guinea pig (=
