Question
me and my housemate just bought a guinea pig on sunday 2/8/04. today we noticed his eye seemed a little squinted and had a little crusty discharge. he sneezes a little but nothing else seems to be wrong. he is happy and energetic besides that and his diet has been consistent. i was wondering if you could tell me what this could mean and if there is anything we could do about it. thank you. heather

Answer
Try wiping the eyes with a warm wash cloth. Also, after doing that, use a little bit of saline solution or human eye drops. Your local pet store may even have eye drops for small mammals. If the discharge continues to appear, it's usually not a good sign. Try taking it back to the place who sold it to you and ask them for help, or look up local breeders in town who will be willing to examine the pig and let you know.

Good luck, Heather!
