Question
my three year old male cavy once loved all veggies and fruits. the only thing he will eat now is grain and banana's. we've been to two so so vets and they have cleared him of maloclusion or parasites. he's lost weight and has become lethargic. could the vets have missed it - do i need a peter gurney caliber vet? your thoughts please. thanks for your service to the cavy community !

Answer
Hi Dan

Even if Maloclusion has been ruled out, it is still possible that your piggy might have injured his mouth. For example, a piece of hay could injure his gums which would make it painful for him to eat. This is another avenue you could explore.

From what you tell me, you need to do 2 things. First is to get a proper check-up of his mouth / teeth and secondly try him with some oranges because it is always wise to give a dose of vitamin c whenever a piggy is unwell. If he won't eat oranges, you can add some orange juice to his water (fresh from an orange) or you can add some 'vitasol' which comes in small bottles and is available from all good stores.

I hope this helps

Keep me informed.
