My Guineas birth sister died.

Question
One of my girl's died at the vets from stomach problems last night & now the sister is alone.  I have two questions; I have 3 boy guinea's, 2 of them are her brothers. I really don't want to increase my numbers by getting another girl.  I'm debating about getting one fixed to join her or if I put them together (boys & girl) in a watched enivornment to socialize would that be enough for her. She is a little over a year.  But she wouldn't have anyone to sleep with, but I don't know anything about getting them fixed (safety/cost)  The 2nd question; Apparently I wasn't feeding enough Timothy hay, & the vet said I should not feed any seeds.  The feed bag I use now doesn't have sunflower seeds but it does have corn & like barley or wheat kernel seeds.  Should I remove all the seeds from the guinea pig food?

Answer
Hi Yvonne

Firstly, I am sorry to hear about your loss.

1. You could get one of the boys fixed but be aware that any surgery performed on small animals is risky.

If you decide just to put the female next to the male's cage, you may find that the 2 males fight due the girl being there.

2. You need to give hay every day. I use grass hay and then timothy hay as a treat. Seeds should be avoided, as your vet said.
