Question
Several monthes ago we adopted a 3rd pig  (we now have 4). She, Tess, is different than the other cavies. She has an unusually long snout, almost like a squirrels snout, but we know that is not possible. Also, we can see the whites of her eyes. 2 of the others their eyes are all black and the 4th's are red.
She is all brown with black feet and the bridge of her nose and a slight line on her forehead is white.
Can you please help us identify her? She is also a shorthair.
  Thank You very much

Answer
Hello Joanne,

I'm very sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I have been very ill the last few days. Again, I am terribly sorry for the delay. I can give you a link to a page that has pictures of all the breeds recognized in the US as well as some links showing different color varieties. In the US, we recognize cavy breeds based on coat types. The different colors are varieties, not breeds. If she has smooth, short hair, she's an American. I'll let you pick out her color variety from the pictures because you can look at her and judge better than I can. She sounds like she may be a broken color though or possibly one of the brown shades (chocolate, red, golden agouti, beige, etc) who carries white spotting (if the line of white is only 2 or 3 hairs). If you are in a country other than the US, let me know where you are and I'll try to help with that as well. Also, a link to a picture of your pig may help as well if you are still having trouble. Once again, I'm sorry for the delay in answering.
