paper ripping

Question
my male guinea pig max who is 4 months old,has been ripping up the paper we use as lining. His wife has just given birth to 3 babies today 25/04/07 - ANZAC Day here, and we thought he was trying to make a nest. But he is still ripping up paper now - we have put him separate from Toffee so that they don't mate again. Is this anger from him or what?
They have hay for cover and are fed guinea pig food that we buy from the pet shop. He is not ill nor is Toffee the mother or the babies. They are cute and very active, especially when trying to get a drink from mum. They are crawling all over her and each other. We are very pleased to have them, as we hope to have at least one male and female (God willing) to keep Max and Toffee living with one of their offspring of the same sex. They live in the big rabbit hutch brought for them with its closed in area at one end and open area in front. We also give them plenty of fresh greens and carrots. Any other ideas for food are welcomed. They love our grass too...and the old plant.

Answer
Hello Helen,

Max is probably just a bit bored. Giving him some toys may help but it's possible he will continue to rip paper. Some piggies just enjoy playing with newspaper. Finding other ways to help him amuse himself is you best chance for getting him to stop. Pet safe stuffed animals, pillows, kitty jingle balls, bird toys, and wooden chew toys are some good options for toys. Congrats on your new pups. I'm including a link to help you identify their gender.
