Question
Hello,
For the last day my young boar has been passing a minimal amount of poo. The ones he does pass are very small and attached by a string of mucous. They are also coated with mucous. Today i discovered that his whole bottom is swollen and taut. The whole area that is hairless and smooth.
Any clue to what this condition is?

Answer
Hey Ross.  Hairless and smooth is normal.  You probably need to clean out his sac.  The males expel their "scent glands," if you will, when attracting a female or when just plain excited.  When they close their scrotum back up, some bedding or poop, etc, can get in there.  I would take him to the sink, and using warm (not hot) water, rinse out his sac and expel what is in there.  It does have a foul odor, no way around this.  As far as why the feces are coated with mucus, I'm not real sure.  I see it sometimes in females, can't remember on the males.  I would not be concerned if that alone was the issue, but along with the decrease in elimination, I would say he is impacted.
